Business Travel Costs Up

Business travel costs are expected to rise 7% during 2001, up from the 4% gain it forecast for 2000 and the biggest rise since it started tracking it in 1986, says Runzheimer International.(Howard Parker-Helpline)

Other Highlights from This Survey:

  • Average number of travel days for frequent travelers decreased in 2000 to 45 days per year from 48 days in 1998.
  • The percentage of travelers who travel internationally reached an all-time high-89%-a full seven percentage point increase since 1998.
  • Advance purchase coach is most popular airfare in 2000, comprising 31% of coach airfares purchased.
  • Average domestic trip cost is $970 for three days; $3,455 for an international trip of seven days, and $1,650 for an overall trip cost average.
  • Forty-five percent of respondent organizations have on-site travel departments.
